📦 What You Need
Before you begin, make sure you have the following:
- A brand new or reset Trezor Model One or Trezor Model T
- A computer with an internet connection (Windows, macOS, or Linux)
- Google Chrome, Firefox, or Brave browser
- The USB cable included with your Trezor device
- A secure, private environment
Important: Never use a Trezor that was set up by someone else or came with a pre-generated recovery seed.
Go to the official setup page using a secure browser:
- Open your browser.
- Type
https://trezor.io/start
in the address bar.
- Verify the SSL certificate and ensure you're on the real Trezor website.
Once there, choose your Trezor model and click "Continue to Suite".
💻 Step 2: Download & Install Trezor Suite
The Trezor Suite is the official desktop interface for managing your wallet.
- Download the appropriate version for your OS (Windows/macOS/Linux).
- Run the installer and follow the prompts.
- Open Trezor Suite and allow USB permissions if requested.
Trezor Suite provides features like portfolio tracking, firmware updates, and enhanced security settings.
🔌 Step 3: Connect Your Device
Once Trezor Suite is open:
- Connect your Trezor to your computer using the USB cable.
- The device will power on automatically.
- You may be asked to confirm the connection on the device screen.
Do not trust any pop-ups asking you to install extensions or give your recovery seed.
⚙️ Step 4: Firmware Check & Update
If this is a new device, firmware may not be installed yet.
- Trezor Suite will prompt you to install or update the firmware.
- Follow the on-screen instructions and confirm actions on your Trezor screen.
- Once installed, your device will restart.
Never disconnect the Trezor during a firmware update.
🆕 Step 5: Create a New Wallet
After firmware installation:
- Click "Create new wallet" in Trezor Suite.
- Your Trezor device will display a 12 or 24-word recovery seed.
- Write down the words in the exact order on a physical paper (or metal backup).
- Confirm the seed by re-entering it on your Trezor if prompted.
Never save the recovery phrase digitally (e.g., on phone, cloud, or PC).
🔐 Step 6: Set PIN and Optional Passphrase
To enhance device-level security:
- Set a PIN code on your Trezor to prevent unauthorized physical access.
- You may optionally enable a passphrase for additional wallet protection.
These steps help protect your crypto even if your device is stolen or lost.
💰 Step 7: Add Crypto Accounts
To start receiving or sending crypto:
- In Trezor Suite, click on "Accounts".
- Choose a cryptocurrency (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum).
- Click "Add Account".
Each crypto account has its own receive address and transaction history.
📥 Step 8: Receive Crypto
- Select your account and click "Receive".
- Verify the receive address on your Trezor device screen.
- Share the verified address with the sender.
Tip: Always confirm the full address on your device screen before sharing or using it.
📤 Step 9: Send Crypto
- Click "Send" in Trezor Suite.
- Paste the recipient's address.
- Enter the amount and select the network fee.
- Verify and approve the transaction on your Trezor.
Transactions are only signed on the device, protecting your private keys.
🧠 Best Security Practices
- Never enter your seed phrase on your computer or phone
- Use a metal backup for long-term seed storage
- Enable passphrase protection for plausible deniability
- Always check for firmware updates
- Regularly verify addresses before sending crypto
